Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius

June 2010-October 2012

MeduProf-S has been requested by the Management of Fundashon Mariadal on Bonaire in the Caribbean Sea, to develop a plan for hospital staff training and education.

The first training will focus on emergency care nursing for the three islands i.e. Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius. It will have an integrative approach whereby nurses working on the ambulances, in the emergency care department and in the intensive care department will be trained to work in all 3 situations. In this way a coherent emergency care service can be provided and the flexibility of available staff will ensure that staff utilisation is optimal.

To ensure the sustainability of the training, a ‘Train the Trainers’ course is included in the program. The locally trained trainers will then be responsible for the continuation of the learning process and the training of new staff members.

Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius have each received new ambulances this summer with the final delivery taking place on Bonaire on 31 August.

The emergency care nursing courses began with an introductory training course in July 2010 to fall in line with delivery of the ambulances. During the course the trainer assessed the working processes and the functioning of the staff to be trained. The training itself is expected to start in the autumn 2010 and continue until October 2012.
