In 1998 MeduProf-S began a countrywide rehabilitation project of the Medical Imaging facilities including clinical training in x-ray and ultrasound and a rehabilitation programme of the medical imaging education for 90 hospitals

MeduProf-S, along with its partners, executed ultrasound and x-ray courses for 90 hospitals and rehabilitated the School of Radiography with a new curriculum, library and teaching materials.

The project included:

Curriculum development support for the School of Radiography in Dar es Salaam
To create sustainability MeduProf-S supported the staff of the School of Radiography with curriculum development, teacher training, use of the internet and e-Learning.

Basic and clinical training in ultrasound for 90 hospitals
The objective of this part of the program was to teach basic skills in ultrasound to the currently available direct users i.e. Medical Officers, Radiographers, and Midwives and teach them the basics of ultrasound for the optimal use of the new equipment installed under the countrywide rehabilitation project.

The content of the training included:

  • Familiarisation with the equipment
  • Introduction to the physical principles of ultrasound
  • Methodical scanning method
  • Image recognition
  • Image interpretation

Mount Kilimanjaro

Operator and skills training in radiography for 90 hospitals
The objective of this part of the program was to teach the currently available radiographers how to use the new x-ray equipment i.e. the Philips Multi-Radiography System and the Duo Diagnost, including associated film processing. Additionally, basic radiography skills (including radiation safety) were refreshed.
The content of the training included:

  • Basic radiography application
  • Quality assurance
  • Image recognition
  • Familiarisation with the equipment, including film-processing
  • Basic radiation safety
  • Management of radiology facilities (statistics/logistics)

Refresher training in Ultrasound x 6 courses

Additional application training with the Duo-Diagnost x 2 courses
